Covid-19 Guidelines

An important note: There remains no evidence that pets are implicated in the transmission of Covid-19 to people and infection of pets is unlikely, but there is a small risk of the virus being carried by pets and their belongings.

We are following the government’s guidelines to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our clients and kindly request that you follow any instructions we give you to assist us in doing this.

Doggy Day Care & Boarding

  • It is now especially important that you let us know when you will be arriving to drop off or collect your pet. We are only permitted to have one client on site at any time. If multiple clients are collecting or dropping off around the same time then we may ask you to phone us from your car when you arrive so we can let you know if it is ok for you to come in.
  • We have implemented a new arrivals and departures procedure (detailed below and also displayed on our front door) to ensure we maintain appropriate social distancing at all times.
    • Arrivals: After we have opened the front door, please wait until we have retreated behind the inner porch door before entering the porch. Unclip your dog’s lead & we will let them into the lounge. You may then leave once the inner porch door is closed again.
    • Departures: After we have opened the front door, please wait until we have retreated behind the inner porch door before entering. Let us know once the front door is closed and we will let your dog into the porch (we may need to shut other dogs out of the lounge before we can do this, so please be patient with us). You can then attach your dog’s lead/collar/harness & leave when you are ready.
    • If we need to discuss anything we can still do so, provided that we remain 2 metres apart at all times.
    • Any forms that we need to be signed (boarding/registration) will now be e-mailed to you prior to your dog’s stay for you to sign and return to us. We would prefer for these to be returned via e-mail prior to your dog’s stay, but if you would prefer to print the form out and return a paper copy then please let us know.
  • We would prefer to use our own equipment (leads/harnesses), but we understand that many people have purchased specific harnesses for good reasons, so if you want to leave your lead and/or harness for us to use, then please hang these up in the porch before you leave. Rest assured that any items we use will be disinfected before your dog leaves us. Our own equipment is also disinfected between uses.
  • We are not currently letting dogs off-lead when out on walks. We apologise if this is disappointing for you, but we are following the current guidelines from the government.
  • All dogs are now wiped over (with pet safe wipes) on arrival and departure.
  • We disinfect our doorbell and door handles regularly.
  • We are unable to accept dogs for boarding or day care if you or anyone else in your household has Covid-19. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Dog Walking

  • I wash my hands prior to leaving my house, and then use hand sanitiser (>60% alcohol) upon arrival at your house.
  • I put gloves on once I have exited my car, and these remain on for the duration of your dog’s walk.
  • I do not use my phone whilst out walking your dog, and I try my very best to avoid touching anything other than the dog’s lead while we are out for our walk, to reduce the risk of any contamination.
  • The most appropriate method for me to enter your home will be determined based on your individual circumstances, but rest assured that an appropriate social distance will be maintained at all times if you are at home.
  • If we use any of your equipment (leads/harnesses) out on your dog’s walk these will be disinfected at the end of their walk. We have plenty of our own leads and a limited number of harnesses that we are able to use if appropriate. These are of course disinfected between uses.
  • If it is necessary for me to touch anything in your house (e.g. door handles) these will be disinfected as I leave your home.

Home Visits

  • I wash my hands prior to leaving my house, and then use hand sanitiser (>60% alcohol) upon arrival at your house.
  • I put gloves on once I have exited my car, and these remain on for the duration of the visit.
  • Anything that I touch during the visit (e.g. door handles, food bowls, litter scoop) will be appropriately washed or disinfected when leaving your home.

Meetings with New Clients & Prior to Commencing Home Visits

The protocols we have had to implement here unfortunately make these meetings feel a bit less friendly and welcoming than normal, for which we can only apologise. We still feel it is beneficial for all parties (particularly your pets) if we have these meetings before you book in with us for any of our services so you can make sure you are happy with all the arrangements.

Meetings in Our Home (for Day Care & Boarding)

  • We will have sent you a registration form before your visit, which we would prefer to receive back via e-mail before your meeting.
  • If you have a digital copy of your dog’s vaccination record then we ask that you send us a copy of this at the same time as your registration form. If you don’t have a digital copy then please bring your dog’s vaccination record with you to your meeting.
  • When you come for your meeting we ask that you wear a face covering (unless you have a valid medical reason not to) – we can provide these if you do not have one, but please let us know beforehand so we can get these out ready for you.
  • We have a bottle of hand sanitiser (>60% alcohol) in our porch, which we ask you to use when you arrive and again when you leave. The outside of the bottle is disinfected between clients.
  • When you arrive:
    • After we have opened the front door, please wait until we have retreated behind the inner porch door before entering the porch. Once you have closed the front door, feel free to unclip your dog’s lead.
    • Use the hand sanitiser and make sure your face coverings are in place, then you can let yourselves into our lounge.
    • We will be in the kitchen, behind a dog gate, so that we can still see and talk to each other, but so that we will maintain a safe distance between us. We will also be wearing face coverings.
    • Your dog(s) can explore the lounge a little and make themselves at home. During this time, we can have a chat, you can tell us a bit about your dog(s) and you can ask any other questions that you have for us.
    • Unfortunately, at this time, we will not be able to fuss your dog(s) during your visit, in line with government guidance. This will be just as hard for us as I’m sure it will be for some of the dogs to accept!
  • When you leave:
    • At the end of your visit we will ask you to let yourselves out so that we remain at a safe distance.
    • Please use the hand sanitiser again before leaving.
  • We disinfect our door handles & doorbell between all clients

Meetings at Your Home (for Home Visits)

  • I will have sent you a registration form before our initial meeting, which I would prefer to receive back via e-mail before we meet.
  • For meetings where I am collecting the key & finalising the details prior to commencing visits, I will have sent your booking form & key release form via e-mail before our meeting and would prefer to receive these back via e-mail before I visit.
  • I wash my hands prior to leaving my house, and then use hand sanitiser (>60% alcohol) upon arrival at your house.
  • I will be wearing a face covering, and request that you do the same (unless you have a valid medical reason not to) – I can provide this if you do not have one, but please let me know beforehand so I can bring one with me.
  • You can let me in and show me where you keep your pet’s food/bedding/litter etc. and where I should dispose of waste during my visits.
  • You can also detail how much food you give your pet(s) per meal/day, but I should already have this information from your booking form.
  • As much as is possible, we should try to maintain a 2m distance between us – I realise this is sometimes difficult while showing someone around your home, hence the face coverings.
  • Unfortunately, at this time, I will not be able to fuss your pet(s) during my visit, in line with government guidance. This will be just as hard for me as I’m sure it will be for some of the pets to accept!
  • I will, as much as is possible, not touch anything in your home, but if the situation arises where there is a need for it, you should disinfect the item/furniture afterwards, just to be safe.
  • I will ask you to open the door for me when I leave.

If you don’t have a specific reason for using your own lead and harness, I will bring my own equipment when I come to walk your dog, at least under the current circumstances, but it will be useful for me to know where you keep your equipment.
  • As much as is possible, we should try to maintain a 2m distance between us – I realise this is sometimes difficult while showing someone around your home, hence the face coverings.
  • Usually, I would use this time to get to know your dog(s), but unfortunately this will be made more difficult due to the fact that, at this time, I will not be able to fuss your dog(s) during my visit, in line with government guidance. This will be just as hard for me as I’m sure it will be for some of the dogs to accept!

If you have any additional requests, please talk to us about them. We will do our best to accommodate you and help you feel safe.

If you develop any symptoms of Covid-19 please inform us as soon as you can.

If you have any questions we can be contacted by any of the usual methods. Please note that due to the fact that I now wear gloves for certain activities I am not always able to answer my phone (to reduce the risk of contamination), so please leave a message and I will call you back.
